In Lower Austria, you can explore the Waldviertel, the Weinviertel, the Mostviertel, the Danube region and the Wachau.

While dense forests and a mystical, rather rugged highland await in the Waldviertel, it is the hilly vineyards and vineyards with the exciting cellar alleys in the Weinviertel that delight the senses.

The Mostviertel is famous for its pear cider and is home to countless pear trees.

The Wachau, which has been used countless times as a region for TV productions, has even been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The vineyards are well worth a visit, especially in the warm season from spring to late autumn.

Melk Abbey, a baroque masterpiece and UNESCO World Heritage Site, fascinates with its architecture and the view over the Wachau. The ruins of Aggstein Castle, situated high above the Danube, transport visitors back to times long past. Rosenburg Castle, one of the most beautiful Renaissance castles in Austria, delights visitors with spectacular bird of prey flight demonstrations.

Lower Austria's treasures

Melk Abbey

Situated in the unique landscape of the Wachau, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the region from here. The abbey itself is a masterpiece of baroque architecture and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit to the abbey is a very special experience.

Aggstein castle ruins

The historic ruins are enthroned high up on a rock in the Wachau. The view of the Danube and the surrounding vineyards is pure pleasure. Those interested in history and nature will get their money's worth on a visit to the famous ruins.

Rosenburg Castle

It is situated on a rock above the Kamp gorge and is one of the most famous and, above all, most impressive Renaissance castles in Austria. The bird of prey flight demonstrations that take place here are spectacular to watch.

Zwettl

The town is best known for Zwettl Abbey. The active Cistercian monastery impresses above all with its history and architecture. It is also home to one of the oldest monastery libraries in Austria.

Wine-growing region

The largest wine-growing region in Austria can be found here in Lower Austria. Internationally renowned and very popular varieties include Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Numerous wine taverns and vineyards offer their specialities combined with delicious home cooking or snacks.
